Laser Hair Removal

What is Laser Hair Removal?

Laser hair removal is a semi-permanent but long lasting way to remove unwanted hair on the body using light with different wavelengths. This method can be very effective in reducing the overall growth of hairs in the targeted area by receiving multiple sessions every 4-6 weeks for up to 8-12 sessions in total.

How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?

Laser hair removal targets the follicle of the hair underneath the skin by using selective photothermolysis. This means that the laser focuses on a specific target (in this case it is melanin, the pigment in our skin and hair) in order to heat up the hair follicle and stop the growth of the hair.

Please shave the treatment area(s) within the 24 hours before your appointment.  When shaving, avoid nicks and irritation to the skin by using caution when shaving.

Avoid sun tanning. Sun exposure may cause highly sensitive skin which is more prone to burning.

Avoid any other forms of hair removal besides shaving.

This includes tweezing, waxing, sugaring, threading, and electrolysis.

If you do perform any of these on the treatment area, please wait another 4 weeks minimum before receiving laser hair removal treatments.

Avoid applying any products to the treatment site that exfoliate the skin.

This includes any products that contain retinol or high concentrations of AHA or BHA.

Discontinue the use of antibiotics for 3-5 days prior to your treatment.

Avoid any other aesthetic treatments in the treatment area that may irritate the skin.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Is Laser Hair Removal painful?

With the Soprano ICE Platinum, most people feel little to no pain due to the very cold ice handpiece and the cooling gel applied to the skin during the treatment. In the areas that have more coarse, dark hair and more pigmented skin you may feel a slight heat sensation (bikini, underarms).

How many treatments will I need?

We suggest treating each area with at least 8-12 sessions in total for long-term results. Each session should be done every 4-6 weeks to ensure best results according to the hair's natural growth cycle.

How long will it take to see results?

Results can vary for each person. Assuming sessions are received on time and regularly, most people notice results within 5 treatments or less. For some people it may take longer depending on the condition of the hair in the treatment area.  For long-term results it is best to complete at least 8-12 sessions per treatment area.

Can you do laser hair removal over a tattoo?

No, we cannot perform laser hair removal over any tattoos because of the pigments in tattoos will risk a burn to the skin. We can only treat the area around the tattoo.

Can you treat white, grey, red or blonde hairs?

We cannot treat white, grey, red or blonde hairs because they do not have a specific pigment. We can treat the black or brown hairs surrounding the area but white, grey, red, or blonde hairs will not be reduced if laser hair removal is performed over them and they will continue to grow.
